1) Find a distinctive still image and write an analysis of the mise-en-scene. Use each of the aspects you've learned in the lesson.

Image result for the matrix stills

First of all from looking at this still from The Matrix the first thing I notice are the costumes the characters are wearing. They are both dressed in all black with black shades which can signify that they are on a certain mission that they are very serious about. as the colour black can signify authority and power and by wearing the all black glasses they look more intimidating to whoever they are facing. The setting of this scene is in a lobby of a professional building could maybe be a business or a bank which taken from the fact that there is a man in security guard on the floor and the protagonist male has his gun out tells me they are breaking in to find somebody/destroy something or kill somebody. Also there are many bullet holes in the walls on the right which tells me there was a huge gun fight previously. The props shown in this scene are hand guns which have clearly been used in a gun fight as the wall suggests and are certain to be continuously used later on in the film. Also by viewing the characters hair and face you can clearly see they have not even been touched in the fight they have just walked out of which can imply they are incredibly skilled in what they do. The facial expressions of the two are very focused and stern which shows they have become hardened versions of themselves and are maybe willing to sacrifice to get to their end goal. The actors in this scene are popular Hollywood actors which will result in great acting throughout the film improving the films quality. They will also be sure to play their roles very well and play them as if they were the actual role they're playing.

2) Find three film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g. horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blogpost and write a comparison of the mise-en-scene in each.

In this clip from Avengers Infinity War we see the setting take place in a huge dirt field of some sort with many trees in the back which looks like a jungle which tell s me it must be set in maybe an African country. You can also see many large hills in the background signifying it is a large piece of land where all is taking place. Dust can also be spotted flying throughout the air which indicates to me there must be some kind of battle going on for that much dust to be flying in the air. We see some type of monsters lunging at the heroes and the costumes are made to be all black which is expected of the villains as the colour black can represent death, evil and aggression which these antagonists all share. The use of the colour black in the costumes shows that the movie has a dark tone about it and isn't as lighthearted as many other Marvel films are. The main prop we see in this scene is Thors' weapon the Stormbreaker axe which plays an important role as it clearly shifts the battle completely giving the heroes an upper hand. We also see the CGI Rocket Raccoon at 0:39 wielding an outer-space looking gun. The lighting of this scene becomes very bright when Thor arrives on the battlefield as he is the light of hope they all needed to turn things in their favour.

In this clip from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Season 4 episode 24 the facial expression on Wills' face when his father tells him he cannot come with him again making Will realise his father is walking out of his life again is a clear sign of despair and discomfort as he knows his father hasn't changed and will never change. At the start of the scene Will looks excited to be going with his father but that smile immediately drops and you can see the anger and sadness building up inside of him which eventually causes him to burst out in tears making the scene that much more emotional to watch. The costumes of the characters in this scene are very different, for  instance Wills father is wearing a tracksuit top, jeans and a beanie which unlike Uncle Phil who acts his age and wears more professional clothing signifying Wills Dad is trying to cling onto his youth and not take care of his responsibilities as a father like he should be which evidently makes Uncle Phil infuriated as he understands the pain that Will will feel. Even when at home Uncle Phil is seen wearing professional like clothing that makes him look a business man which is something he must do as in the show he does work as a judge so he must always keep up appearances even when outside of work as he takes his responsibilities seriously. The setting of this scene is in the Banks family mansion where majority of the show is set. It straight away tells the audience the family are extremely wealthy and that at they work well paying jobs especially Uncle Phil. To be specific the scene takes place in the living room of the house which is the most shown room in the show meaning the audience know it better than anything which will then provide that emotional attachment in the scene. The lighting isn't focused on a specific part of the scene and is instead equally shone showing the importance of all characters.

The overall lighting in this scene is very dark to make the scene extremely eerie and heart clenching as you won't know what will pop out or where certain things are like the Raptors giving off an ominous tone. The scenes setting is in a kitchen which can be dangerous for the children as there are many pots and pans and objects that could make a huge amount of noise which would cause them to be found by the Raptors, therefore they must take things very slowly as there is no room for mistakes in this perilous situation. Throughout the scene we see the Raptors knocking pots over causing the children to have to move very quickly to avoid being detected increasing the risk factor for them both. The facial expressions on the two children throughout the scene shown signs of concern, anxiety and panic. They have never experienced being in such a treacherous situation so they are clearly scared to death and cannot even get their words out properly because of how terrified they are, and you cannot forget that they're still young children so moments like this will stick with them forever and they may even suffer PTSD from experiencing this at such a young vulnerable age. The costumes they are wearing are fully brown which was probably so that they could blend in with the jungles trees and because it is the usual colour adventurers wear so maybe the children were inspired and wanted to act like those that they look up to as most young people do. The make-up used on the characters is many blood bruises all over their bodies which indicates the may have been attacked before hand or have been getting cut by the trees etc in the jungle when maybe running away from dinosaurs. The actors in this scene play their role very well as they match the script well and act as if they are actually hiding from real life dinosaurs as if their life is in real danger which really brings the scene to life for the audience. The props used in this scene are mostly just pots pans and kitchen utensils which make huge amounts of noise when pushed around which adds to the intense tone of the scene as you don't know if one of the children may crash into one of the utensils by accident and make noise and bring the Raptors closer to them eventually ending in their death.

What do you think the film is about and what might the story line be
What genre do you think the film belongs to
Who do you think is the target audience

I think the film is set way into the future and the main character is on the run for committing a crime and some type of military force is hunting him down throughout the movie.

I think the film genre is most definitely action/Sci-Fi as by looking at the poster it looks very futuristic and you can even see some sort of floating vehicle in the centre of the poster. Also because of the flashing lights it gives off that Sci-Fi look. Also the font of the title blade runner is in a very futuristic way.

I think the target audience is mostly male and definitely teenagers as the film most probably includes many action sequences and gives off the futuristic feel that will engage young viewers like teenagers straight away.

From analysing the poster I think the film is about a group of college students who are put in horror like situations but with a twist as there is a lot of comedy involved as the review 'Absolutely hilarious' suggests.

The genre I think this movie belongs to is definitely comedy as the poster clearly tells us with the use of the review up top and the central image which is the actors all with weird looks on their faces and one is even seen with popcorn on his head which implies the comedic aspect of the film

I believe the target audience is for teenagers and young adults as the poster tells us it is mainly comedy which all young people enjoy as they like to have a more positive and joyful view of life. Also the big block like font with the funny face replacing the O in Movie would clearly not be aimed for a more adult audience but for younger people.

From looking at the poster i think the film may be about a man in search or in need of something and from looking at the clothes he's wearing he may be homeless or something along those lines and really in need of money which he may achieve by the end of the movie which would create the usual happy ending.

The genre this film belongs to in my opinion would probably have to be 'adventure' because of the title as it is most probably the main characters name and when the title is the name of a character is usually means they are on some sort of mission to maybe find their true selves or the meaning behind something or maybe just trying to reach their end goal. I also think the genre is adventure because of the central image of him over-viewing some sort of city district as if he has to reach some goal.

I think the target audience for this film is adults because of how it has a more darker tone and how the poster shows no sign of light and looks almost depressing which younger audiences will not be interested in at all whereas it would be more appealing to adults

                                                                                  Film Poster 4
Image result for i'm not scared poster
From viewing this poster I think the movie may be about the young boy pictured in the poster travelling to an underground place where he must face his fears to save somebody or something. He might be going against supernatural beings that you wouldn't see in the real world at all

I think that the film may have two genres which I think are horror and adventure because of the title 'I'm not scared' showing that there will be something horrific featured that the boy will have to face. Also the reason I said adventure is because of the fact that he is peering down a hole in the ground
that he will most likely be travelling down leading him to another place underground.

I think the target audience is for 16 to 25 year old as they are the age range that are enjoy horror films as it gets the adrenaline pumping for them and they love to watch something engaging for them
as there will always be the suspense of not knowing what will occur throughout watching the whole film.
                                                                    Film Poster 5

I think Sin City is a movie about a city full of crime and crime bosses trying to enforce their own law onto others and that there is also a mafia aspect involved too as there are probably many illegal gangs working in silence to take out anyone that opposes them. There also may be a mystery, e.g somebody has died or gone missing and maybe the main characters is trying to figure out what has happened to said person. I also feel like there is a lot of use of action and enigma codes throughout the film as there will most definitely be a lot of guns fired and killing and also the mystery of not knowing what will happen next. I also feel there may be a multi-stranded narrative because of how there are many characters featured on the poster which.

The way the poster shows people dressed in dark clothing and a man wearing a suit and weapons being wielded as well as the dark colour scheme tells me that the genre of this film has to be crime and also action.

The target audience for this would be mature adults as the film is set in a older time period that they may recognise or enjoy watching and that the poster just straight away tells you that it is not aimed for children as a children's film wouldn't be gritty or involve much or any violence whereas a film for adults would most definitely use these themes.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
                                 Film Poster 6
From viewing this poster I believe that the movies plot involves the main character Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) adventuring in this instalment to find this sacred thing that may be inside of the 'dead mans chest' but there are many other pirates also trying to reach it causing battles between each other. This creates many action sequences and also by not knowing what the chest is nor whats inside of it creates enigma codes as well as the viewer will stay thinking what it could be.

The genres that I have inferred from examining this poster are action, adventure and fantasy. This is because in the poster it is clear that there are ships sinking from fighting each other which shows the action and the fantasy is that there are many unrealistic foes like talking squid men etc. Finally I picked adventure because there is a clear goal which is the chest which our protagonist is searching for throughout the film

The target audience for this film in my opinion would have to be teenagers aged 13 to probably mid 20's as the film also has a comedy aspect mixed in with the adventure which all young audience enjoy as it may also be a way of escapism from the real world for them.

Bride And Prejudice [2004] [DVD]                                                                               Film poster 7
From viewing this poster I can infer that the story-line will have to do with the male and female on the poster will be planning and getting married but it wont be easy as they think as there might be problems that may emerge from a turning point between the two families or the couple themselves but by the climax the two become happily married and there are no problems unless it ends on a cliffhanger which would lead to a sequel. Also by having the word prejudice in the title infers that somebody from one of the families pre-perceives somebody from the other family in a negative way which causes problems.

The genres I think are included in this film are romance comedy and drama/ This is because the review up top states how it was 'spectacular, romantic, funny and so sexy' which are clear indicators of what the film will be like before you even watch it. I also get the feeling that there might be a musical aspect to this film as well throughout the entirety of it as the '&' in the title is shaped to be a musical note.

The target audience for this in my opinion is mature adults e.g 30 to 50 as dramas and musicals are more appealing to the old generation whereas the younger generation are more into films and shows that are action packed and also adventure.

Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby (2004)                                              Film Poster 8
From examining the poster my thoughts on this films' plot is that the woman pictured in the middle is training hard to become a professional boxer but isn't at the level she wants to be so she must go out and seek guidance from a boxing trainer, maybe the one pictured on the right but he is reluctant to train her for some reason, maybe because she's a female and because of the stereotypical representation that women cannot fight he refuses to be her trainer. But the turning point will be that she has proven herself to him and he recognises her as true talent and trains her forming a close bond through student and teacher. Which will then lead to the final act of the movie where she gets into her first professional boxing fight which she wins. Also, the reason I recognise that it is the boxing film is because of the clothing she is wearing and how her hair is tied into a ponytail for boxing.

The genre i think this film belongs to is drama because there will obviously be dramatic sequences for instance there might be a compilation of her intense training like in Rocky which will most definitely be intense and dramatic to watch. I also say drama because of how serious the poster looks. All straight faced and very darkened showing it will not be light-hearted and will include intense scenes.

The target audience for this in my opinion would probably be people in their twenties to early thirties as many could relate to having to go through certain hardships to achieve their goal. I also say this because drama films are more so intended for older audiences who will be more gripped into the narrative and wanting to desperately know what'll happen next.
